The week didn’t end up the way we would have wanted it to but given all the facts leading in to the game, we shouldn’t be all that surprised. Losing 2 key contributors to injury before the scrimmage even started was a tough blow and then our locker room was struck with the “Veritas Plague”
Half of our team was sick during the week of practice and were still showing signs before the game even started. As the game moved on, you could tell there was an strong fatigue factor setting in on the team. A lot of mistakes that happened that we don’t normally see from the players and know that we wont see as a regular occurrence.
With that being said, and not to make an excuse, we had numerous opportunities to take a lead and win that football game. The offense couldn’t seem to stay on rhythm despite some hard work by Zach Jackson through the air and Marko Vuletic and Gage Lentz on the ground. Just struggled to make the key plays when necessary.
The defense put up a great effort against a team that is used to scoring a lot more points than they did that night. Eli Ravelo and Harris Lytle were all over the field making tackles and disrupting the offense. Nisa Maafu forced 2 different fumbles and Will Tork and Jonathan Morrison scooped them up. Unfortunately gave up some big plays because of miscommunication and misalignment, correctable mistakes but crushing blows at the time they occurred.
We move forward, with our Vitamins and cough syrup in hand! Ready for Week 2
